Three Delhi Metro station gates were closed temporarily on Monday morning in preparation for the Cockroach Janta Party’s march to Parliament. Thousands of supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar for the “Chalo Sansad” protest. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) closed entry and exit gates at several stations as a precautionary measure.
Shortly after the DMRC’s advisory, the Cockroach Janta Party stated that multiple Metro stations were shut as protesters headed to Jantar Mantar. The DMRC later reopened interchange facilities and station gates at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat, signaling a partial return to normal operations. The protest aims to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak and other examination irregularities.
The demonstration also has the support of activist Sonam Wangchuk and the Cockroach Janta Party. Wangchuk, on an indefinite hunger strike, was hospitalized at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi after being moved from the protest site. His hospitalization followed a Delhi High Court decision allowing intervention if his health deteriorated during the fast. The Monsoon Session, starting on Monday and lasting until August 13, will have 19 sittings over four weeks.
