Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, also the Chairperson of the State Names Authority, has approved the renaming of two upcoming Metro stations and modifications to seven others. This decision was made to ensure that station names reflect local identity and provide clear geographical references for commuters. The changes were implemented after reviewing the names proposed in the Detailed Project Report of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

Two stations have been completely renamed: Haiderpur Village (formerly North Pitampura) and Madhuban Chowk (formerly Pitampura). The new names were chosen to align more closely with the local identity and commonly recognized geographical references of the areas. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that Metro stations are not just transit points but also reflect the identity and cultural significance of the areas they serve.

Out of the 21 station names proposed in the DPR, 12 names were retained, seven were modified, and two were completely renamed after detailed examination. Factors such as historical, social, and cultural significance of the area, local identity, and recommendations from public representatives and residents were considered while revising the names. The aim was to avoid confusion among commuters and ensure that the names accurately represent the geographical identity of the locality.

The decision-making process also took into account the need for composite names that incorporate nearby prominent areas to assist passengers in navigation. The State Names Authority ensured that each station name reflects regional identity and public sentiment while adhering to established naming norms. Future proposals for name revisions will be considered if they align with public interest and prescribed procedures.
