Delhi-NCR is facing scorching temperatures reaching 44 degrees Celsius today amidst the advancing southwest monsoon in various parts of India. The region is currently experiencing hot and humid conditions, causing discomfort for residents. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds in Delhi and the National Capital Region on June 11 and 12.
Heatwave conditions are anticipated to persist in Delhi and neighboring areas until the arrival of a fresh western disturbance on June 11. This disturbance is expected to bring relief in the form of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and light to moderate rainfall. The IMD predicts the southwest monsoon to reach Delhi and NCR between June 25 and June 30, providing respite from the prevailing heatwave.
The monsoon’s progression is also expected to bring seasonal rainfall to other parts of northern India during the same period. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Northeast India, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Authorities have cautioned about possible waterlogging, flooding, and travel disruptions in vulnerable areas due to the anticipated rainfall.
