Scorching heatwave conditions persist in Delhi-NCR, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for the region. Temperatures have sharply risen, making outdoor activities challenging for residents. The IMD predicts temperatures touching 44-45 degrees Celsius, prompting an orange alert for the next five days.
The heatwave has forced people to adjust their routines, with joggers and walkers feeling the impact of the rising temperatures. Morning activities now start earlier to avoid the uncomfortable heat. Delhi, along with Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, is expected to face severe heatwave conditions with temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius.
The IMD’s upgraded orange alert urges residents to take precautions against the extreme weather. The risk of heat-related illnesses is heightened, especially for vulnerable groups. Delhi also faces high electricity consumption due to the heatwave, with peak power demand exceeding 7,700 MW. Authorities advise staying indoors during peak hours, staying hydrated, and taking preventive measures against heat-related ailments.
