Delhi-NCR woke up to a cloudy and humid morning on Tuesday, with light winds offering a potential respite from the recent hot weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the likelihood of light rainfall, dust storms, and gusty winds affecting parts of the National Capital Region as the southwest monsoon progresses across northern India. The monsoon’s influence has intensified across various regions, leading to widespread rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in multiple states. Weather advisories have been issued by the IMD for several areas, cautioning about heavy rainfall and wind speeds of up to 70 kmph in isolated spots.
Changing weather patterns are anticipated not only in Delhi-NCR but also in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and others as the monsoon activity gains momentum. In Delhi, temperatures are expected to hover around 39 degrees Celsius, but the weather is likely to improve as rainfall increases in the upcoming days. The capital city experienced some relief on Monday evening with light showers and isolated thunderstorms, which helped lower temperatures and provided temporary relief from the persistent heat and humidity.
Despite these improvements, the IMD warns that isolated areas in Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh may still face heatwave conditions on June 30. However, a gradual decrease of 4 to 5 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is anticipated across northwest India by July 4 as the monsoon winds strengthen and rainfall becomes more widespread. Uttar Pradesh is bracing for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in various districts, including Lucknow, Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, and Muzaffarnagar. Residents are advised to stay cautious due to the expected cloudy skies, lightning, and intermittent showers throughout the day.
Bihar is also set to witness active monsoon conditions, with forecasts indicating heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in cities like Patna, Gaya, Nawada, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Bhagalpur, Katihar, and other districts. Wind speeds could peak between 65 and 70 kmph in certain isolated areas, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay vigilant and keep track of evolving weather conditions.
