The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that Delhi-NCR will face intense heat and heatwave conditions for the next three days. A ‘yellow alert’ has been issued for May 26 and 27, with temperatures expected to reach a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 30-31 degrees Celsius. Residents are advised to be cautious, especially during peak heatwave hours in the afternoon, and to stay hydrated to avoid heat-related illnesses.
The IMD warns that the heatwave conditions will persist, with temperatures remaining high. Strong surface winds are anticipated during the afternoon and evening, exacerbating the hot weather’s impact. On May 27, similar conditions are expected, with temperatures hovering around 44 degrees Celsius for the maximum and 31 degrees Celsius for the minimum.
As the heatwave continues, strong winds are likely to increase the risk of heatstroke and dehydration. The IMD forecasts a slight decrease in temperatures starting May 28, with a maximum of 43 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 32 degrees Celsius. Light rainfall, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds are predicted for that day, providing some relief from the scorching weather.
From May 29 onwards, a significant drop in temperatures is expected, with the maximum temperature decreasing to around 36 degrees Celsius. Light rainfall, thunder, and strong winds are anticipated, offering further respite from the heatwave. The weather is predicted to be relatively pleasant on May 30 and 31, with temperatures ranging between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius for the maximum and around 25 degrees Celsius for the minimum.
Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions against the prevailing heatwave conditions until the anticipated weather changes due to a Western Disturbance and shifting atmospheric conditions.
