The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts rain and gusty winds in Delhi-NCR until June 4, offering respite from the summer heat. Daytime temperatures are expected to stay below 40 degrees Celsius until at least June 6. A yellow alert has been issued for Monday and Tuesday, warning of light to moderate rainfall and strong winds, while no specific alert is in place for Wednesday and Thursday.
The maximum temperature is forecasted to range between 35 to 38 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday, with a subsequent increase to 37 to 39 degrees Celsius from Wednesday to Saturday. Night-time temperatures are also expected to rise gradually, reaching around 29 degrees Celsius mid-week. Sunday saw a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, below the seasonal average, with pleasant weather due to cloudy skies and cool winds.
Residents experienced relief from the May heat on Saturday with gusty winds and afternoon showers, bringing temperatures down to 37.1 degrees Celsius, over three degrees below normal. The city is likely to have partly cloudy skies on Monday and Tuesday, followed by clear weather until Friday. The recent weather improvements have positively impacted Delhi’s air quality, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) dropping to 85, categorized as “satisfactory,” the cleanest air in over 230 days.
Delhi’s average AQI for January-May in 2026 is the lowest in eight years, excluding 2020 when Covid-19 restrictions reduced pollution. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reported an average AQI of 211 for 2026, an improvement over previous years. The city’s air quality has shown a positive trend, with monitoring stations reporting satisfactory levels, including readings of 63 at Anand Vihar, 92 at Ashok Vihar, and 107 at Dwarka Sector-8.
