The residents of Delhi-NCR experienced a pleasant change in weather on Wednesday with cloudy skies, cool breezes, and light showers providing relief from the recent heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rain and pleasant weather for the region in the coming days as the southwest monsoon progresses towards the national capital. Light rain was reported in parts of Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad, accompanied by overcast skies and gentle winds, easing the high temperatures.
The IMD predicts that Delhi will witness light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 40-50 kmph from July 1 to July 6. Cloudy skies are expected to prevail throughout the week with intermittent showers across the city and neighboring areas. While the monsoon has not officially arrived in Delhi, it has reached parts of Uttar Pradesh and is approaching Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, with favorable conditions for its onset.
The recent rain and strong winds on Tuesday night brought relief from the scorching heat, continuing into Wednesday morning and raising hopes for an early monsoon arrival in the capital. Prior to this change, Delhi had been experiencing high temperatures, with Safdarjung recording a maximum of 40.5 degrees Celsius and the Ridge reaching 41.5 degrees Celsius. The IMD noted a slight decrease in maximum temperatures and a minor rise in minimum temperatures over the past 24 hours, with westerly winds at 15-20 kmph contributing to improved weather conditions.
