Delhi Police have apprehended five individuals in connection with a stone-pelting episode that transpired during a demolition operation near Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in the Turkman Gate vicinity, adjacent to Ramlila Ground. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials confirmed that the drive aimed to clear unauthorized structures from the mosque’s vicinity and surrounding areas, following directives from the Delhi High Court issued on November 12, 2025.

The enforcement activity commenced early on Wednesday, with a substantial presence of civic personnel and law enforcement. Reports indicate the utilization of 10 to 17 bulldozers during the operation. Subsequently, a sizable group of locals congregated outside the mosque, expressing dissent and chanting slogans against the operation.

Tensions escalated as some individuals from the crowd endeavored to breach police barriers, resorting to pelting stones at security forces. In response, the police employed tear gas shells to disband the agitators and contain the unrest. Charges have been filed, encompassing sections related to rioting, assault on government officials, and impeding public servants in the execution of their duties.

Previously, authorities had detained 10 individuals for interrogation in connection with the incident, while the search for additional suspects is ongoing. Further updates on the matter are anticipated.
