In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Shahdara district police in Delhi have apprehended three suspected drug peddlers in separate operations, confiscating nearly 2 kg of ganja. The police teams from Vivek Vihar and Farsh Bazar police stations collaborated to seize a total of 1.944 kg of ganja over two days.
During the first operation on April 29, a suspect, identified as Gaurav Gupta alias Kaliya, was caught near an underpass in the Kasturba Nagar area by the Vivek Vihar police team. The police recovered 650 grams of ganja from his possession. Gupta, a 25-year-old resident of Shahdara with a history of 12 criminal cases, has been taken into custody under the NDPS Act.
In a subsequent operation on April 28, the Farsh Bazar police intercepted another suspect, Nizamuddin alias Tonu, near Keyan Banquet Hall during routine night patrolling. Upon searching him, the police found 779 grams of ganja. Nizamuddin, a 36-year-old resident of Shahdara with a criminal record of 10 cases, has also been charged under the NDPS Act.
The third incident involved the apprehension of Mukesh, a repeat offender, near the railway line in Bihari Colony of Bholanath Nagar on the night of April 29 by the Farsh Bazar police beat staff. Mukesh, a 32-year-old resident of Shahdara with a history of five criminal cases, was found in possession of 515 grams of ganja. An investigation has been initiated under the NDPS Act.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), Rajendra Prasad Meena, emphasized the district police’s firm stance against drug-related crimes, aiming to dismantle the broader supply network associated with the arrested individuals to foster a safer, drug-free environment in the district.
