Delhi Police’s West District uncovered a fake marriage scheme aimed at single men, deceiving them through sham marriages and swindling large amounts of money. Three individuals have been apprehended for allegedly defrauding a Rajasthan native of Rs 6 lakh under the guise of marriage, with efforts ongoing to capture other members of the group.
The investigation was initiated following a missing person report for a woman known as Lovely alias Lalita filed at Police Station Khyala on June 18. A specialized team, led by SI Kishor and supported by various officers, utilized technical surveillance and local intelligence to locate the woman in Rajasthan’s Pali district, where she was found.
Lovely, during questioning, disclosed her involvement in a fraudulent marriage operation with her husband and associates, targeting unmarried men. The group, including Lovely and her husband, allegedly orchestrated a fake marriage between Lovely and another individual, extracting Rs 6 lakh from the victim and planning to abscond with the money and valuables post-wedding.
Following the victim’s complaint, an FIR was lodged on June 29, leading to the arrest of Lovely alias Lalita, Kamal Lohra, and Deepu alias Rakesh Ekka. The police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects to bring them to justice and are investigating potential similar fraudulent activities in other regions.
