The Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi Police has dismantled an interstate gambling ring in Shahdara district, Delhi, leading to the apprehension of 21 individuals. The AATS team in Shahdara was specifically assigned to monitor and capture those engaged in illicit gambling activities. Inspector Prateek Saxena led the team, which operated under the supervision of ACP Mohinder Singh and DCP Shahdara District.
The team, disguised in civilian attire, gathered intelligence on gambling operations in the area. Acting on credible information received on July 1, a raid was swiftly conducted at a residence in House West Nathu Colony, Delhi. During the raid, 21 individuals, comprising 16 men and five women, were caught in the act of illegal gambling on the premises’ second floor.
Upon searching the location, authorities seized approximately Rs. 77,900 in cash, 2,998 gaming coins worth around Rs. 15,00,000, and 22 decks of playing cards, alongside other gambling paraphernalia. A case under Sections 3/4/6/9/55 of the Delhi Public Gambling Act was registered at Mansarovar Park Police Station, leading to the arrest of all 21 suspects.
Two of the accused, Anil Chaudhary and Sagar Ahuja, confessed to managing the gambling session and disclosed their roles as property dealers organizing such events. They revealed that participants were required to purchase gaming chips at Rs. 500 each to join the session. The property where the gambling took place is owned by Laxman Dass, with Chaudhary paying Rs. 30,000 per session to use the premises.
The investigation is ongoing to trace the financial transactions, previous gambling activities at the location, involvement of other associates, and connections to the interstate gambling network. Most of the arrested individuals are from Delhi and various parts of Uttar Pradesh, with four from Nepal residing in Delhi and Ghaziabad.
