A cyber fraud case involving Rs 10,52,938 was solved by the Delhi Police’s Cyber Police Station, North-East District, leading to the arrest of two individuals from Jharkhand. The case originated from a complaint filed by Rakesh Kumar, a 65-year-old resident of Meet Nagar, who fell victim to a fraudulent WhatsApp call on April 25. Subsequently, unauthorized transactions drained the mentioned amount from his bank accounts after he downloaded a file as instructed by the caller.
Inspector Rahul Kumar, SHO/Cyber NE, spearheaded the investigation along with a team that gathered digital evidence from various sources. This effort resulted in the arrest of Amarnath Rabidas, 20, from Dhanbad district, who was found with three mobile phones. Following interrogation, Rabidas implicated his associate, Bikash Rabidas, 21, leading to his arrest and the recovery of an additional mobile phone. Both suspects admitted to orchestrating the cyber fraud using malicious APK files, routing the defrauded money through multiple bank accounts and withdrawing a portion via ATMs.
A sum of Rs 2,05,000 from the cheated amount has been frozen in a separate bank account, and the investigation uncovered five more NCRP complaints associated with the recovered mobile phones. The police continue to probe the matter for further insights.
