In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police cyber cell has solved a cheating and sextortion case involving around Rs 5.80 lakh and arrested three youths. The Cyber Police Station of Delhi’s north-east district cracked the case registered under Sections 308/318(4)/319/340 BNS by apprehending three individuals for their role in a sextortion-based cyber fraud.
The arrested suspects, identified as 18-year-old Rajesh, 22-year-old Kunal, and 23-year-old Imran, are residents of Haryana’s Faridabad. The complainant, K.L. Tripathi, from Delhi’s Ganga Vihar area, reported being targeted by an unknown woman who coerced him into compromising situations and extorted money from him.
Tripathi fell victim to threats from various impersonators posing as law enforcement and social media representatives, demanding payment to prevent the circulation of an obscene video. Under duress, he transferred approximately Rs 5.80 lakh through different financial channels.
Upon discovering the fraud, Tripathi reported the incident to the Cyber Police Station. A dedicated team led by Inspector Rahul Kumar conducted a thorough investigation, tracing part of the defrauded funds to accounts held by Rajesh and Kunal. Subsequently, the accused were arrested, leading to the identification and apprehension of Imran, who was involved in withdrawing the extorted money.
During interrogation, the suspects revealed the existence of a well-organized sextortion syndicate operating from Rajasthan’s Mewat region. No prior criminal records have been found for the arrested individuals, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
