The Delhi Police have filed a case against former Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj for allegedly disclosing the identity of a minor sexual assault victim. The victim, a three-year-old girl, was reportedly sexually assaulted at a school in Janakpuri. Following this, an FIR was registered against Bharadwaj, and the Janakpuri Police are currently investigating the incident.
Bharadwaj’s social media post on the platform X highlighted the case, where he mentioned the young victim and the accused, a 57-year-old senior official of the school. He also criticized the Delhi Police, claiming that the victim’s mother had accused the local SHO and DCP of pressuring her to suppress the case. Bharadwaj further questioned the delay in conducting a medical examination of the victim at AIIMS and raised concerns about justice for the young girl.
In response to the incident, Bharadwaj and women councillors staged a protest outside the Raj Bhavan, demanding action against police officials accused of intimidating the survivor’s family. They sought an appointment with the Lieutenant Governor to address the matter. Notably, a similar incident involving the disclosure of a minor rape victim’s identity via social media occurred in January 2024, leading to an FIR against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.
