At least 20 Delhi police personnel were detained by the Himachal Pradesh Police after they arrested three Youth Congress leaders in Rohru town, Shimla district. The leaders were taken into custody due to their involvement in a protest at the AI summit in New Delhi. A Delhi Police team apprehended the leaders and was on its way back to Delhi when they were intercepted by the state police near Dharampur town in Solan district.
The detained police personnel and arrested leaders were then escorted to Shimla and are scheduled to appear in court. Superintendent of Police Tirumalaraju SD Varma disclosed that they were alerted about the arrests and established checkpoints near Dharampur at the Shimla police’s request. The Shimla police executed the arrest of the policemen, prompting Congress lawmaker Kuldeep to demand severe action against the Delhi Police for their actions against the Youth Congress leaders.
Kuldeep criticized the Delhi Police’s actions as an effort to stifle dissenting voices, emphasizing that conducting raids without warrants infringes on privacy rights. He called upon the state government to pursue legal measures against the Delhi Police and censured the Central Government, asserting that the nation does not belong to any single party. Alleging that the government is attempting to suppress youth voices, he highlighted the controversy surrounding the Youth Congress’s shirtless protest during the AI summit.
