The Delhi Police has filed a case under the culpable homicide section and other relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) following the tragic Malviya Nagar fire that claimed 21 lives. The hotel owner, identified as Lokesh Bajaj, along with three partners, is involved in the hotel’s operations and owns multiple properties in the city. Authorities are investigating the hotel’s ownership, operations, and safety protocols.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jitender Kumar confirmed the loss of 21 lives in the fire at Lemon Green Restaurant in Malviya Nagar. Among the 47 rescued individuals, 26 are currently receiving medical treatment. SDM Kumar stated that the search and rescue operation concluded at 12:12 p.m., with 21 fatalities and 26 injured individuals.
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, reported receiving 13 patients, including three who sustained injuries from falling. Ten of the patients are rescuers, comprising five head constables and five constables from the Delhi Police who were the first responders. Three bodies have been transferred to the Burns and Plastic Surgery Department.
Senior officials from Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services, and rescue services are on-site overseeing the situation.
