In 2025, Delhi saw its lowest average concentration levels of Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5) since 2018, according to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The daily average of PM10 in Delhi for 2025 was 198 (µgm/m3), a decrease from 212 in 2024 and 242 in 2018.
The Ministry stated that the daily average of PM2.5 in Delhi in 2025 was 97, down from 105 in 2024 and 114 in 2018. Over the years, the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) has implemented various measures to combat air pollution in Delhi-NCR.
The Ministry’s announcement coincided with the CAQM Sub-Committee’s decision to lift restrictions under Stage-III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Friday. Delhi’s Environment Minister highlighted the city’s efforts in improving air quality under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped from 380 to 236 within a day. Despite the relaxation of GRAP Stage-III restrictions, the focus remains on sustaining pollution control efforts with equal dedication and intensity.
Minister Sirsa emphasized the need to intensify pollution control initiatives to build on the progress made. He mentioned advancements in pollution control strategies, such as waste biomining and clean-tech interventions, contributing to visible improvements in air quality.
The Environment Department and civic agencies reported a surge in anti-pollution activities in the past 24 hours, including issuing challans for vehicular emission violations and extensive cleaning operations across the city. Minister Sirsa reiterated Delhi’s unwavering commitment to combat pollution through continuous learning and enhancement of pollution control measures.
