Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has given the green light for the creation of 272 new positions in the Revenue Department, which includes two District Magistrates and eight SDMs. These additional posts are in response to the formation of new districts and sub-divisions in the region. The newly sanctioned roles encompass various positions such as ADMs, Sub-Registrars, Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, Senior Assistants, Junior Assistants, MTS, and others across different cadres.
Before the recent restructuring, the Revenue Department had 1,553 approved posts in 11 districts. With the addition of 272 positions, the total sanctioned posts have now increased to 1,825 spread across 13 districts. The reorganization of Delhi’s Revenue Districts was approved by the Delhi Cabinet on December 11, 2025, expanding the districts from 11 to 13 and increasing Sub-Divisions from 33 to 39. This move also led to the establishment of 39 Sub-Registrar offices, aligning Revenue Districts with MCD Zones/NDMC/Cantonment Board.
The reorganization process, in line with the Cabinet’s decision, has been completed and is in accordance with the directives of the Deregulation Cell, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Government of India’s Ease of Living mandate. This restructuring has significantly broadened the statutory duties of the Revenue Department, involving increased judicial and administrative workloads under BNSS, 2023, and intensified field-level operations for various tasks like land record management, Disaster Management, Election duties, Public Welfare schemes, and more.
The approval for these additional posts in the Revenue Department by Saxena aims to enhance field-level administration, address staff shortages, and enhance service delivery to the public. Given the Revenue Department’s extensive public interface, these measures are expected to directly boost efficiency and streamline administrative processes. To promote digital access and reduce bureaucratic obstacles, the government has linked e-District services with the Common Service Centre (CSC) network, enabling citizens to access various government services locally through over 7,000 active CSC centers in Delhi.
