Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood oversaw the signing of an agreement among the city government, the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), and the International School Sport Federation (ISF) to organize the ISF World School Wrestling Championship and the ISF World School Badminton Championship in Delhi next year. These events will bring together over 1,000 athletes from 50 countries, enhancing Delhi’s global sporting reputation. The agreement aims to inspire young athletes, improve their skills, and expose them to top-notch facilities and international competition.
This initiative will not only fortify Delhi’s sports environment but also position the national capital as a capable host for upcoming national and international sports events. Delhi will host the ISF World School Championships for the first time, uniting student-athletes, coaches, officials, and delegates worldwide. Minister Sood emphasized that these championships align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Khelo India’ and ‘Fit India’ vision, showcasing Delhi’s commitment to developing world-class sports infrastructure under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership.
The upcoming championships will offer Indian school athletes a platform to compete globally, fostering a vibrant sports culture and advancing India’s aspiration to excel as a global sports powerhouse. Minister Sood expressed confidence in the Delhi government’s ability to successfully organize this prestigious event, which will precede the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in the city. Hosting the ISF World School Championships in 2027 will further elevate Delhi’s stature in the global sports arena.
