The Delhi Zoo is rejoicing as three Asiatic lion cubs have been born in the same year, a rare occurrence involving lioness Mahagauri and lion Maheshwar. The lioness and her newborn cubs are currently in a secure maternity enclosure, receiving essential care in a calm environment for their early development. The zoo’s veterinary and animal care teams are closely monitoring the cubs under the constant supervision of their mother through a CCTV surveillance system.
The successful repeat breeding of this lion pair marks a significant milestone in the National Zoological Park’s conservation breeding efforts for the endangered Asiatic lion species. In April, Maheshwar and Mahagauri had previously welcomed two healthy cubs, a male named Kartik and a female named Karni, who are both thriving at the zoo. Presently, the National Zoological Park is home to six Asiatic lions, including three males and three females.
Recently, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh introduced the “NZP Saathi App” at Delhi Zoo, along with self-ticketing kiosks to enhance the visitor experience. The app, available on Android and iOS platforms, offers interactive maps and navigation to help visitors locate animal enclosures, facilities, and more. Additionally, the app provides various thematic tours and personalized tour options for visitors.
