Delhi witnessed improved air quality on Thursday following the lifting of restrictions by the Commission for Air Quality Management. Although the overall air quality remained ‘poor’, certain areas in Delhi and the National Capital Region saw better readings, moving into the ‘moderate’ category.
This improvement comes after a prolonged period of ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ air quality levels in the region. Specific locations like India Gate, Akshardham, and Sir Aurobindo Marg showed improved Air Quality Index readings, indicating better air quality conditions in key areas of the city.
Despite the positive change, a fog warning is in place for Delhi and surrounding regions during morning hours. The India Meteorological Department has forecast dense to very dense fog across various states, including Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh, among others.
Officials mentioned that while Stage IV restrictions have been lifted, preventive measures from earlier stages of the Graded Response Action Plan will continue to be enforced to prevent any worsening of air quality.
