The demolition of Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s five-storey party office in Amtala, West Bengal, is ongoing. The office, labeled as the “Office of MP, Abhishek Banerjee,” had digital locks on each floor, raising questions about the need for such high-security measures in a district party office.
During the demolition process, specialized staff from the fire services department had to break open the digital locks. Local residents suspect that important documents related to land grabbing cases and the ‘Sebaashray’ health camp, initiated by Abhishek Banerjee, were stored in the office, necessitating the digital locks.
Trunks filled with files have been removed from the building, but the nature of the documents remains undisclosed. The demolition was initiated after the Trinamool Congress leadership allegedly ignored two notices from the district administration regarding illegal construction charges on parts of the building.
Abhishek Banerjee has criticized the demolition as illegal and threatened legal action. He also warned of similar actions against BJP party offices if Trinamool Congress regains power after the 2031 West Bengal Assembly elections.
