Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President, D.K. Shivakumar, mentioned that the government is examining beneficiary records to address potential misuse. This review comes after the discovery of misappropriation, including funds reportedly going to unauthorized recipients and discrepancies in contact details. Discussions are ongoing to ensure the rightful beneficiaries receive the benefits, with comprehensive reviews being conducted at the taluk level.
Shivakumar also responded to criticisms regarding irregularities in rice distribution under the Anna Bhagya scheme, attributing the issue to the Central government’s failure to supply rice. He criticized the BJP-led Central government for burdening the public with price hikes while highlighting the Congress government’s efforts to alleviate financial pressures through guarantee schemes. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the positive impact of these schemes, noting their recognition both within Karnataka and at a global level, including commendation from the United Nations.
Addressing the escalating prices and declining incomes affecting businesses, Shivakumar condemned the Centre for raising fuel prices despite lower international crude oil costs. He underscored the significant financial commitment of the Karnataka government towards sustaining the five guarantee schemes, amounting to approximately Rs 51,000 crore annually.
