Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed that BJP leaders have not spoken out about the Central government’s notification for the Krishna Upper Stage Project, despite objections from Andhra Pradesh regarding land acquisition and compensation. Shivakumar, along with other ministers, plans to visit New Delhi to discuss the state’s worries with Members of Parliament.
During a discussion in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Shivakumar assured compensation for farmers affected by the project and mentioned the pending rehabilitation process. He emphasized the need for the Central government to issue the project notification to ensure fair compensation for farmers.
Shivakumar highlighted the issue of conflicting compensation claims by some landowners in the project area, leading to potential complications in the rehabilitation process. He mentioned the government’s consideration of providing monetary compensation instead of rehabilitation to avoid further complexities.
The Andhra Pradesh government has raised concerns with the Central government regarding land acquisition and compensation under the project. Shivakumar pledged to work with all members to find a resolution to the issue and address the objections raised by Andhra Pradesh.
Congress member Tippannappa Kamakanur inquired about utilizing funds saved from a recent court ruling for projects like the Ettinahole project and the Krishna Upper Stage Project. Shivakumar acknowledged the court verdicts that have benefited the state and emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving legal disputes effectively.
