Left-handed batsman Devdutt Padikkal scored a solid half-century in the India A vs. Sri Lanka A match before rain interruptions led to a draw on the final day. Sri Lanka A, chasing 312 runs, reached 70/2 before play was called off due to persistent rain delays. India A, starting the day at 53 without loss, saw a good partnership between Ayush Pandey and Padikkal.
Spinner Dilum Sudeera dismissed Pandey for 38, and Ravindu Fernando sent Ruturaj Gaikwad back for 1, putting India A at 137/2. Padikkal’s 67-run knock, supported by skipper Dhruv Jurel, steadied the innings until Sudeera and Arachchige struck, leaving India A at 172/4. Following a rain delay, Sudeera’s five-wicket haul caused a collapse, with India A declaring at 189/8.
Pawantha Weerasinghe’s 20-run start for Sri Lanka A was cut short by Auqib Nabi, while Harsh Dubey dismissed Niroshan Dickwella, leaving the hosts at 2 down. Despite a brief play resumption after rain, poor light and wet conditions forced the match to end in a draw. The second unofficial Test will commence in Galle on July 2.
