The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has enforced a ban on public gatherings in significant locations in Bangladesh’s capital. This restriction, effective immediately, aims to uphold public order and ensure the safety of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus. The ban, issued under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, prohibits various activities like meetings, processions, and human chains near the Secretariat and Jamuna.
Lawyers in Dhaka staged a human chain protest following the tragic killing of lawyer Naeem Kibria in the Bashundhara Residential Area. The demonstration, held in front of the Dhaka Bar Association, was organized by Sachetan Abiyani Samaj. Advocate Anwarul Islam, addressing the protesters, denounced the murder and called for a prompt trial to deliver justice.
The lawyers emphasized the urgent need for a robust legal framework to safeguard legal practitioners in Bangladesh. They demanded thorough investigations and trials for all murder cases in the country. Naeem Kibria, a 35-year-old lawyer at the Pabna Judge Court, fell victim to mob violence in the Bashundhara Residential Area on December 31, losing his life in a tragic incident.
