The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) organized a protest procession in Dhaka demanding justice for victims of rape and violence in Bangladesh, including Narsingdi district. The procession, which started from the central mosque of Dhaka University, ended at the Raju Sculpture within the university campus, as reported by local media.
During the protest march, DUCSU leaders chanted various slogans, such as “Give women strength, or step down from power” and “Ensure women’s safety, or step down from power.” They also called for action against rape, with slogans like “Tarique Rahman, end rape” and “In my golden Bengal, there is no place for rapists.”
DUCSU General Secretary S M Farhad warned Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to take decisive actions against extortionists and rapists if he wants to remain in power. Farhad also mentioned that if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders continue to protect perpetrators, the protests from the university campus could spread across the country, according to the ‘Dhaka Tribune.’
Addressing the BNP, Farhad threatened that if necessary measures are not taken, campuses nationwide would join forces to mobilize students and the public against rape syndicates. Recent reports indicated a surge in crime rates in 2025 across Bangladesh, with women and children being the most affected by violence, including murder, banditry, and mob violence. The rise in crime rates was attributed to law and order challenges following the change in government leadership.
