Dhyan Santosh caused an upset by defeating sixth seed Punnatat Prempunpong from Thailand in the boys’ singles first round at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Yatsushiro, Japan. Meanwhile, Tanvi Patri secured a comfortable victory over Indonesia’s Christabel Purwanto in the girls’ singles, and Dev Ruparelia faced a tough challenge against Sri Lanka’s Pamudu Randiligama.

In other matches, Adarshini Shri triumphed over Lee Kay Xin from Malaysia, but Abhinav Garg suffered a defeat against Lucas Lee, also from Malaysia. Earlier, India’s journey in the Mixed Team competition ended in the quarterfinals with a loss to Hong Kong.

India started strongly in the opening set with Dev Ruparelia and Tanvi Patri providing a solid start, leading 22-12 after two matches. However, Hong Kong turned the tables in the second game, leading to a decider. Despite efforts from the Indian team, they were unable to recover from the setback and lost the set.
