Champaran Range Deputy Inspector General Harkishore Rai has taken swift action by suspending two police officers from Sugauli police station in Bihar. The suspension was a result of alleged negligence and irregularities in the investigation of a fatal road accident involving the death of Mohd Alias on August 15, 2025.
The suspended officers are accused of trying to shield the accused in the case, as revealed by a report submitted by Motihari Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat. Instead of conducting a fair investigation, Circle Inspector Ashok Kumar Pandey is said to have colluded with the tractor owner, Brajesh Kumar Mishra, shortly after the incident.
During the inquiry, it was discovered that Pandey pressured the victim’s family to accept Rs 60,000 as compensation and attempted to remove the tractor owner’s name from the case through an informal settlement. Additionally, it was found that the tractor owner’s brother, a serving Sub-Inspector in the Bihar Police, had close contact with Pandey based on Call Detail Records.
DIG Harkishore Rai’s decision to suspend Ashok Kumar Pandey and Nidhi Kumari, Investigating Sub-Inspector, Sugauli, was based on these revelations. Nidhi Kumari has been asked to provide a detailed explanation as part of departmental proceedings. The disciplinary action was initiated following a detailed inquiry by trainee Deputy Superintendent of Police Rishabh Kumar, prompted by a public grievance redressal meeting.
Senior police officials have emphasized that strict measures will be taken against any officer involved in corruption or tarnishing the image of the police force, regardless of their rank or influence.
