The Digi Yatra app has streamlined more than 10 crore journeys, with over 2.4 crore downloads on iOS and Android platforms, according to government officials. This digital platform has significantly reduced airport entry processing times from 15 seconds to just 5 seconds per passenger. Currently operational at 38 airports, Digi Yatra aims to expand to 27 more airports by the following year.
This efficient system has improved terminal infrastructure, decreased congestion, and minimized manual processing burdens. The Civil Aviation Ministry hails Digi Yatra as a leading digital innovation in global aviation. By eliminating physical boarding passes, the initiative promotes environmental sustainability by saving substantial paper usage across airports.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu commended the Digi Yatra team for achieving the milestone of 10 crore users. He emphasized the growing passenger confidence in seamless, paperless, and contactless travel. The minister highlighted the significant rise in domestic passenger traffic over the past few years, crossing the 5-lakh mark on multiple occasions.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to enhance air travel accessibility, India anticipates annual passenger traffic to hit 50 crores by 2030 and nearly double to 100 crores by 2040. To manage this surge effectively, the government is implementing various digital solutions like Digi Yatra and other technological advancements in airport operations. India has successfully implemented and expanded Digi Yatra within a short span, setting an example in biometric passenger processing.
Digi Yatra, currently available in 11 languages, plans to introduce 11 more regional languages by the year-end. The upcoming greenfield airport projects in Navi Mumbai, Jewar, and Bhogapuram are set to be fully Digi Yatra-enabled, ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers.
