Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik has advised against likening young batting talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to the iconic Sachin Tendulkar. Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old left-handed opener playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, has impressed with 579 runs in 13 matches and a remarkable strike rate of 236.32. Karthik emphasized that Sooryavanshi’s journey will present unique challenges different from Tendulkar’s feats.
Karthik highlighted the distinct challenges faced by cricketers of different eras. While Sachin Tendulkar’s hurdles encompassed both on-field and off-field aspects, Sooryavanshi is likely to encounter more off-field obstacles due to his early success and talent. Karthik shared these insights on the Quest Talk podcast by iQOO, where he serves as the batting coach and mentor for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Reflecting on the evolution of the IPL since its inception in 2008, Karthik noted the league’s transformation into a global phenomenon. He described the IPL as a rapidly evolving platform that has revolutionized cricket with advanced data analytics and a massive fan following. Karthik emphasized the IPL’s status as a lucrative career option for aspiring cricketers, competing with other major sports events worldwide.
