Director Lokesh Kanakaraj addressed the media to explain his decision to step back from directing the highly anticipated film featuring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. He revealed that despite the honor of working with the legendary stars, he had prior commitments to direct ‘Kaithi 2’. Kanakaraj expressed his gratitude for the opportunity but had to prioritize his ongoing project over the new film.
Kanakaraj shared that he dedicated a month and a half to crafting the script for the Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan film, ensuring a story that would showcase both icons. However, both stars, known for their action roles, expressed a desire for a lighter film instead. As Kanakaraj’s forte lay in a different genre, he respectfully withdrew from the project to pursue his filmmaking style.
The director acknowledged the support received for his film ‘Coolie’ and expressed gratitude to the audience and media for their backing. Despite facing criticism, ‘Coolie’ had a successful run of 35 days, with Sun Pictures confirming its profitability. Kanakaraj appreciated the lessons learned from the experience and pledged to incorporate them into his future projects.
