Director Vivek Agnihotri, known for films like ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Tashkent Files’, responded to Mamata Banerjee’s loss in the recent West Bengal elections. Agnihotri expressed his views on Instagram after the BJP’s victory in the state polls. He mentioned how Banerjee had banned him from entering Bengal and had prevented ‘The Kashmir Files’ from being screened in cinemas.
Agnihotri highlighted that Mamata Banerjee had also blocked the release of ‘The Bengal Files’ in West Bengal. He recalled facing attacks, FIRs, and being unable to receive an award from the Governor due to the ban. Despite these challenges, Agnihotri stated that they persevered by clandestinely showing ‘The Bengal Files’ to audiences across Bengal during the elections.
Previously, Mamata Banerjee’s government had restricted the trailer launch of ‘The Bengal Files’. The film, based on the tragic events of Direct Action Day in 1946, aimed to shed light on the communal riots that occurred in Bengal. However, the filmmakers were prohibited from screening the movie or its trailer in the state.
