A high-level committee has been established by the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu to engage in seat-sharing negotiations with its alliance partners for the upcoming Assembly elections. Led by T.R. Baalu, the committee includes senior party leaders like K.N. Nehru, Tiruchi Siva, A. Raja, R.S. Bharathi, E.V. Velu, and M.R.K. Panneerselvam, indicating the significance attached to these discussions. The structured talks are a strategic move to ensure coordinated discussions and smooth allocation of constituencies.

The committee’s formation marks the initiation of formal discussions within the DMK-led alliance as they gear up for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Scheduled to commence discussions on Sunday, the committee will focus on various aspects such as constituency allocation, winnability factors, regional strengths of alliance partners, and broader electoral strategies. The early start of seat-sharing talks underscores the DMK’s aim to present a united front well in advance of the election timeline.

The DMK-led alliance, which includes both national and regional parties, has been proactive in initiating seat-sharing negotiations to avoid last-minute hassles and strengthen the coalition’s electoral prospects. By setting up a dedicated panel comprising experienced leaders, the party aims to streamline the process and ensure a cohesive approach that benefits all alliance partners. The upcoming discussions are crucial for campaign planning, especially in closely contested constituencies, as the alliance prepares for the 2026 polls.
