Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has become a significant ally for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the early preparations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The DMK has proposed offering the DMDK seven Assembly constituencies and a Rajya Sabha seat that will be vacant in April, as part of efforts to strengthen its alliance base. However, the DMDK is pushing for a larger share, aiming for up to 14 Assembly seats.
While negotiations with the DMDK are ongoing, the DMK is also exploring other political avenues to expand its coalition. Talks have included discussions with expelled AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam to assess potential collaborations. Despite these discussions, the DMK is focused on forming a pragmatic and robust alliance rather than pursuing symbolic partnerships.
The DMK is eager to finalize alliance agreements swiftly to proceed with organizational preparations for the elections. It aims to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls before concluding seat allocations with its partners. The party plans to contest around 170 of the 234 Assembly seats, indicating its confidence in maintaining its incumbency.
