DMK MP P. Wilson has criticized actor-politician Vijay after several of his supporters were injured in road accidents while following his convoy to Thanjavur. Wilson emphasized the importance of a leader guiding followers responsibly rather than encouraging reckless behavior. The incidents occurred as hundreds of vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, trailed Vijay’s convoy from Tiruchy to Thanjavur for a party meeting.
The enthusiastic pursuit by fans resulted in multiple accidents, with one involving a 20-year-old student named P. Vignesh who sustained severe head injuries in a collision. Vignesh is currently receiving treatment in the ICU of a private hospital, while his friend Arun, who was also involved in the accident, suffered a leg fracture. Additionally, three other supporters on two-wheelers collided with each other while attempting to catch up with Vijay’s vehicle, sustaining fractures to their hands and legs.
Following the incidents, police have initiated an investigation and registered a case in connection with the accidents. Wilson highlighted the need for leaders to advise supporters against reckless driving, riding without helmets, causing public disturbances, or skipping educational commitments for political events. He stressed that true leadership involves fostering discipline and civic responsibility among followers, rather than merely enjoying popularity without promoting these values.
Expressing concern for the injured youths, Wilson acknowledged the importance of young people in shaping Tamil Nadu’s future and wished them a speedy recovery.
