The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful flight test of the Pinaka long-range guided rocket at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur on India’s east coast. The rocket, tested for a user-defined minimum range of 60 kms, demonstrated all planned in-flight manoeuvres and hit the target precisely as predicted.
The Pinaka LRGR rocket, designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, was launched from the in-service Pinaka launcher. This successful test showcased the rocket’s versatility, enabling the launch of Pinaka variants of different ranges from the same launcher.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO, the Indian Army, and the industry for the achievement, emphasizing the significance of indigenous design and development capability for long-range guided rockets. Defence Secretary and Chairman of DRDO, Rajesh Kumar Singh, closely monitored the trials and commended all teams involved in the test.
In a previous test last year, DRDO had also successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR 120) at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, for its maximum range of 120 kms. These rockets are intended for use in the Pinaka Multiple Launcher Rocket System (MLRS), enhancing the Indian Army’s capabilities in modern warfare.
