In Bihar, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) confiscated 104.9 kg of cannabis and apprehended two individuals as part of its anti-drug trafficking efforts. The arrested suspects confessed to being involved in the illegal transportation of the contraband. They face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
This seizure is a component of DRI’s consistent campaign against drug trafficking in India. Over the past year, the Lucknow Zonal Unit of DRI has intercepted narcotics and psychotropic substances worth approximately Rs 46.5 crore in Bihar’s black market, leading to the arrest of 31 individuals linked to these incidents. The seized items include charas, ganja, hydroponic weed, cocaine, heroin, and diverted codeine-based cough syrups.
Through well-coordinated operations, DRI continues to target organized drug syndicates, aligning with the Government of India’s objective of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ (Drug-Free India). In a separate operation in Kerala, DRI’s Cochin Unit seized more than 24 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in various cities. The operation, named ‘Chakravyuh,’ resulted in the arrest of five individuals, including key operatives associated with drug trafficking networks.
The seized contraband in Kerala was being smuggled through diverse channels such as passenger baggage, courier shipments, and outbound export cargo, underscoring the sophisticated techniques employed by drug traffickers.
