A drug trafficker in Ahmedabad has been sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 2 lakh in a mephedrone smuggling case from 2023. The convict, Mohammad Irfan Usmangani Saiyad, was found guilty by an Additional Sessions Judge in Ahmedabad for possessing 155 grams of mephedrone and 43 grams of charas at Kalupur Railway Station.
In a separate incident, a Special NDPS Court in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, has sentenced three drug traffickers to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh each for interstate Ganja trafficking. The three convicts, Arun Kumar Sharma, Ranjit Sharma, and Ganga Choudhary, were apprehended by the NCB Bhopal Zonal Unit in 2000 for transporting over 870 kg of Ganja from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh via Chhattisgarh.
The arrests were made following the interception of a truck at the Shaliwada Toll Plaza in Jabalpur district in 2020. The seized Ganja, sourced from Boregaon, Odisha, was en route to Maihar, MP. The convicts were charged under various sections of the NDPS Act,1985, and the seized drugs and vehicle were disposed of as per legal procedures.
