A junk dealer’s intoxicated employee was apprehended for killing a neighbor in Begumpur village, South Delhi, following a dispute with the victim. The accused, identified as Rakesh Kumar alias Kaily, 25, from Bihar, fatally struck Shatrughan’s neck with a wooden stick around 1 a.m. before fleeing. Despite initial resolution and pacification of the altercation, the accused later attacked the victim while he was asleep.
Shatrughan succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, leading to the arrest of Rakesh by the Malviya Nagar Police. The accused was presented in court the next day and remanded to judicial custody. The incident unfolded after the accused, under the influence of alcohol, engaged in a confrontation with the victim, escalating to a fatal assault.
The crime was reported to the police through a PCR call by complainant Ranjit Yadav, detailing the murder at Jhuggi T-5B, Gatta Godown, Begumpur. Following an altercation between Shatrughan and Rakesh, which was initially resolved, the accused later attacked the victim while he was asleep, resulting in his demise. The injured victim was rushed to AIIMS Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigations by the Crime Team led to the arrest of Rakesh, who hails from Bihar and has been residing in Delhi for several years, engaged in scrap work. The accused, described as illiterate, has been living in Begumpur with his brother and was working under a local contractor.
