The 135th Durand Cup Trophy Tour reached Ranchi, marking the city’s first time as a host venue. The trophies were welcomed at the Kerketta Auditorium, Dipatoli Military Station, in a grand function organized by the Indian Army’s Eastern Command.
Shri Sudivya Kumar, Minister for Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports, and Youth Affairs, Jharkhand, and Major General Sajjan Singh Maan attended the event. The Minister expressed pride in hosting the Durand Cup in Ranchi and invited everyone to join the sporting celebration.
The ceremony included cultural performances and the unveiling of the tournament’s trophies. Major General Sajjan Singh Maan highlighted the expansion of the Durand Cup to Ranchi, emphasizing the city’s footballing tradition. The Trophy Road Show showcased the iconic trophies across Ranchi, generating excitement among football enthusiasts.
Colonel Hem Chandra emphasized Ranchi’s preparations for hosting the Durand Cup and its significance as a new host city. The Trophy Tour will continue with an outreach program in Gumla on July 20, further engaging with the local community. Ranchi’s inclusion as a host venue signifies the tournament’s commitment to promoting football in emerging sporting centers.
