External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the shared responsibility of India, Japan, Australia, and the US towards a free and open Indo-Pacific during the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi. Stressing the importance of the region as a driver for global growth and stability, Jaishankar mentioned the need to address various challenges, including supply chain resilience and connectivity choke points.
Jaishankar pointed out that the Quad has been focusing on key priorities such as maritime security, critical technologies, economic resilience, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR). He emphasized the significance of strategic confidence, maritime security, economic choices, and transparent partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region for fostering collaboration and growth.
The Quad, consisting of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, aims to enhance cooperation in areas like maritime security, supply chains, critical minerals, infrastructure development, disaster relief, and emerging technologies. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio are participating in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
