Anwar Ali and Youssef Ezzejjari each scored two goals as East Bengal FC achieved a historic 7-0 win over Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. This victory stands as the largest winning margin between the two teams and equals the highest margin in ISL history, matching FC Goa’s 7-0 triumph over Mumbai City FC in 2015.
The Red and Gold Brigade’s dominant performance propelled them to fourth place in the standings with 11 points from six matches, while Mohammedan SC remains at the bottom without a point in five matches. Anwar Ali was named the Player of the Match for his exceptional display, including two goals.
East Bengal took an early lead with Anwar Ali’s long-range strike in the sixth minute, followed by Youssef Ezzejjari’s penalty goal in the 14th minute. The hosts continued to press forward, extending their lead through Saúl Crespo’s penalty before halftime.
The second half saw Ezzejjari convert another penalty, making history as the first team to score three penalties in a single ISL match. Despite being reduced to ten men, Mohammedan struggled to respond, while East Bengal added more goals through PV Vishnu, Anwar Ali, and Nandha Kumar to seal their remarkable 7-0 victory.
The ISL 2025-26 season will resume on April 3, 2026, with East Bengal facing Punjab FC in New Delhi after the international break.
