East Champaran Police in Bihar, under Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat’s guidance, successfully dismantled an international and inter-state drug smuggling network near the Indo-Nepal border. A joint operation with Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in the Jitna police station area led to the seizure of narcotics valued at around Rs 1.5 crore in the global market. One trafficker, disguised as a holy man, was apprehended with 8 kilograms of Charas and marijuana hidden under saffron robes.
The arrested individual, Naresh Das, believed his religious attire would shield him from suspicion, but vigilant security personnel uncovered his disguise. Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of his previous smuggling activities under the same guise. The arrested smuggler, during initial questioning, revealed crucial information about the network’s operations, indicating a flow of narcotics from Nepal to Uttar Pradesh and other regions in India.
SP Swarn Prabhat disclosed that the police are actively pursuing other members of the trafficking ring based on the intelligence gathered. Security measures have been intensified along the Indo-Nepal border, particularly in Raxaul and adjacent areas, with increased scrutiny of vehicles and individuals. In a separate operation, three traffickers were arrested in East Champaran district with 7.650 kilograms of high-quality Charas and marijuana.
The arrested individuals, Ayush Kumar, Riyaz Khan, and Chand Mohammad, were apprehended near Pantoka village following a tip-off. SP Swarn Prabhat emphasized a strict “zero tolerance” stance against drug trafficking, emphasizing that all involved individuals, regardless of status or connections, will face legal consequences.
