In a significant crackdown, the East Champaran police rescued 16 minor girls from orchestra operators allegedly involved in exploitation. Acting on complaints from various police station jurisdictions in the Motihari district, police teams conducted raids at multiple locations connected to orchestra groups. Six operators were arrested for forcing minor girls to perform obscene dances under the guise of “classical dance.” The raids were part of a broader effort to combat human trafficking, child labor, and exploitation in orchestra groups and red-light areas, ensuring victim rescue and rehabilitation.
East Champaran Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat mentioned that two minor girls were rescued from Dhaka police station area, two from Pachpakri, and 12 from the Patahi police station area. FIRs have been filed in the respective police stations, with legal proceedings underway. Most rescued girls claimed they were deceived with promises of employment but were coerced into engaging in immoral activities disguised as “classical dance.” A comprehensive investigation into the network is ongoing, with indications of a possible inter-state trafficking racket involving girls from states outside Bihar.
The arrested orchestra operators are under intensive interrogation to uncover the full extent of the operation. Authorities are also gathering information on other individuals and groups involved in similar activities. Efforts are being made to identify additional orchestra operators engaged in illegal practices, with a warning of strict action against such practices in other regions if complaints are received.
