Ed Sheeran recently shared the story behind giving up his mobile phone, which led to the creation of one of his songs. The Grammy-winning artist, during a concert in Sydney, discussed how a past legal battle over copyright changed his communication habits. Sheeran mentioned that he now prefers emails over texts for staying in touch.
The singer explained that a lawsuit in 2015, where he was accused of copying a song, prompted him to surrender his electronic devices for investigation. Since then, Sheeran has not owned a mobile phone, having switched it off during his Australian tour and never turning it back on. He described the experience of powering up his phone for the lawsuit as a journey back in time, inspiring him to write a song called Old Phone for his upcoming album.
Sheeran expressed that he turns challenging moments into music as a way of processing life events. He emphasized that writing songs helps him make sense of both negative and positive experiences. The artist believes that his songs reflect intense emotions, whether from difficult or joyful times, showcasing his creative process of turning personal moments into music.
