The Education Ministry has granted Letters of Approval to three globally renowned Foreign Higher Education Institutions, marking a significant step towards advancing the internationalization vision of NEP 2020. The University of Bristol, the University of York, and the University of New South Wales will establish campuses in India, enhancing quality education, global learning partnerships, and research collaboration.
These universities, by setting up campuses in Mumbai and Bengaluru, are aligning with two of India’s key knowledge, technology, and innovation hubs. Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed this move, emphasizing Bengaluru’s status as the new Silicon Valley of the eastern world. He congratulated the universities for becoming part of India’s expanding global higher education ecosystem.
The University of Bristol will establish its Mumbai Enterprise Campus, offering programs in areas like Immersive Arts, Finance, Data Science, and Business Management. Meanwhile, the University of York will set up its first overseas campus in Mumbai, focusing on programs such as Finance, Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security. The University of New South Wales will launch UNSW Bengaluru in August 2026 at Manyata Business Park, offering programs in Business, Computer Science, and Cyber Security, among others.
These initiatives are in line with the internationalization agenda of NEP 2020, which aims to achieve the highest global standards in higher education and position India as a global study destination. The UGC Regulations provide a framework for globally renowned institutions to establish campuses in India, fostering academic mobility, research, and innovation, and enhancing education partnerships with the UK and Australia.
