At least eight individuals lost their lives in a tragic accident in Maharashtra’s Raigad district when a tourist vehicle en route from the Konkan region to Satara met with a fatal mishap. The vehicle reportedly lost control and plunged nearly 1,000 feet into a valley in Raigad’s hilly terrain. Rescue operations are ongoing, with two bodies recovered so far, and efforts are underway to locate the remaining victims.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over the incident, where eight friends on a trip met with the unfortunate accident at Ambenali Ghat in Raigad district. The bodies, scattered at different locations, are being retrieved with the help of multiple teams, including NDRF assistance. The difficult terrain and the valley’s depth are posing challenges for the rescue teams, comprising police, local administration, and disaster response units.
In a separate incident on the Mumbai-Agra Highway in Dhule, six individuals lost their lives, and 26 others sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle collision. The mishap at Laling Ghat involved a dumper truck colliding with a standard truck, followed by a passenger bus from Madhya Pradesh ramming into the damaged vehicles. A toll employee assisting in the rescue efforts was among the casualties, with all injured persons receiving treatment at the District Hospital.
