Elaborate security and emergency services arrangements have been set up for over 200 Rath Yatra processions happening in Gujarat, particularly in Ahmedabad. This city hosts the second-largest Jagannath Rath Yatra in India after Puri, held annually on ‘Ashadhi Bij’. Gujarat’s Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik stated that more than 200 Rath Yatras will occur across the state, with complete security measures in place. The 149th Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad is considered highly sensitive, with continuously improving security arrangements each year.
Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani announced the commencement of the 149th Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad. The idols of Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Jagannath have begun their procession covering a route of approximately 16 km across the city. All necessary arrangements, including ambulances and fire brigades, have been organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the police.
BJP MP Mayank Nayak extended wishes for Lord Jagannath’s blessings to everyone. He emphasized the longstanding tradition of the Rath Yatra and its significance for Gujarat and the entire nation. Devotees expressed their excitement for the annual festival, with some sharing their first-time experiences of witnessing the Rath Yatra and the darshan of Lord Jagannath.
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah conducted the ‘Mangala Aarti’ and offered prayers at the temple, while Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel performed the traditional ‘Pahind Vidhi’ by ceremonially sweeping the path with a golden broom before the chariots began the procession.
